about

This song takes a "no holds barred" approach to lyrics; trading in honeyed metaphors for blatant honesty. "Hope and Heart" talks about a dark point of life that a lot of us go through, wondering if we even matter in the grand scheme of things? Will we be missed if we suddenly disappeared? Is there really anyone out there looking out for us?

I think the song is pretty straightforward with its message; although it can be misconstrued as a song about suicide. Looking at the lyrics closer, the song is a pretty good (I think) representation of the 5 stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. I definitely was not thinking this deeply when I wrote the lyrics, it was more from pure frustration that these words were born, however, I am glad that it turned out that way.

I've never been a person who fancied elegant similes and phrases with deeper meaning, at least when i came to my own songs. I'd prefer the message to be more "in your face", so that you get the full brunt of it the first time you hear it. This may come across as the lyrics lacking depth, but I assure you, some of these lines in these songs are still hard for me to sing, even though I wrote them months ago and these situations are pretty much behind me. I can still get choked up listening to this song, and hopefully that feeling is portrayed to you guys as well. Cheers!

lyrics

[Verse 1]
I'm losing hope, in everything I know
I've given up on everyone I love
So this is my resignation from this life
Not just goodbye, but another way of saying, “You were right”
[Hook]
If there’s a reason to go on, then let me know, ‘cause I’ve been praying for change but it never came (it never came)
If you have something else to say, then fire away, ‘cause I’m listening, I’m listening
[Verse 2]
After all the clouds clear out you still don’t show your face, how am I supposed to know youre really up there
When every time I start to believe, you just rip it out of me, is this the only way I can make you listen
I tried to find a better way, a sacrifice paid to escape, but if I suffer then youll suffer with me
‘cause you’ve taken everything I had, hope and heart is all that’s left, and youll have to take them from my cold, dead hands
Youll have to pry it from me, pry it from me
Just try and take it from me, take it from me
[Outro]
Will they miss me when I’m gone, will they shed a single tear for me, I don’t want to leave, no one even knows, where will I go, what does it mean
No one even know
Will they miss me when I’m gone, will they shed a single tear for me, I don’t want to leave, no one even know, where will I go, what does it mean
No one even knows
Will they miss me when I’m gone, will they shed a single tear for me, I don’t want to leave, no one even know, where will I go, what did I mean
